Hang Up On Scammers Posing as Your Bank

Posted on Wednesday, October 09, 2013

Hoosiers are reporting they have received robocalls from scammers posing as a local bank or credit union. Typically the pre-recorded message says “your card has been suspended”. Just hang up if you receive one of these phishing calls. Do not give out any of your personal or card information. These scams are also reported to come in the form of e-mail or text messages - do not respond to those either.

These scams often originate overseas and are very hard to trace. It is very unlikely victims of phishing scams will recover any of their money and banks often hold individuals responsible for the loses when information is provided voluntarily to scammers.

If you have received a scam call, text, or e-mail of this nature, please report it to the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division by submitting a complaint online -
